It’s a rhetorical question in a way that I pose in reply to the story from the UK about 100,000 people being abused in care facilities. I know the answer.

Decades.

It just goes to show that we aren’t learning how to treat those who have issues looking after themselves with respect. This goes back to the old asylums from the late 19th century through to the mid 20th century. We still treat the infirm like animals. A disgusting judgment on “survival of the fittest”. It’s why Autism is being promoted as a disease – as a method to force a eugenic elimination. As an example.

Where is the understanding in this world? It’s moving too fast and people end up not having time to care unless they are forced to. That’s why I see Autism as a penalty for the ever increasing pace of life. It’s a sensory overload candidate. No understanding means regression is almost a bloody guarantee!!

It’a about time confirmed abusers of these people faced a long time in jail. I reflect back on the great sentence given to that bastard who burned the 8 year old Autistic. The elderly and adults who are disabled deserve similar protections.

The United Kingdom was the first country to legislate to protect those with disabilities. 1970 was well before 1992 when we got legislation here. I’m pretty sure the US legislation was also more recent.

The BBC opinion piece is well done. It heralds the efforts of a House of Commons MP, Alf Morris, who is now a Member of the House of Lords as a rightful reward for his hard work.

Parts of the article that I haven’t quoted on the news page speaks of people with disabilities not wanting to work despite a physical ability to do so. I went through a period like that after I lost my job with the Department of Defence. It’s what led me to do other things in order to avoid becoming a vegetable – and now I’m in a no win situation. I don’t consider that my fault. It’s the fault of the law. It’s not strong enough in it’s protection.

I think this article is a very prudent reminder of how far we still have to go to get respect for our issues. The fight has to go on.

This is the result of the BS that all those fools who are promoting Autism as an all world bad thing. It undermines a real understanding of Autism and it has to stop.

Kelly – the admin of Zach Lassiter’s site – asked what had to be done to prevent this. I say that we have to start shutting down the lying websites and make a concentrated effort to properly educate the public on the Autistic Spectrum. Treating us like animals is not acceptable – and that’s why this bastard got 50 years.

I also wonder what the mother was thinking, getting an EX boyfriend to baby sit her kids! Why was he an ex? You work it out! I think the mother has some questions to answer as well.

The PubMed article was quoted by Sullivan on Left Brain/Right Brain and I saw that A4 convenor Bob Buckley had commented and I’ll quote him here;

Note, that this appears to be overseas doctors working in Australia. Sadly, it is quite possible that under-diagnosis of ASD applies to much of the adult Australian population since some Government funded mental health services in Australia do not regard autism/ASD as mental illness (I remain puzzled as to which part of a person they think ASD affects).

I’ve run into that problem as well because it’s one of the keys of access to Disability Services in Victoria. That’s why my plan during the election campaign (before my nomination fell through) was to campaign for aligning the definition of “disability” in the Disability Services Act with the definition under the Equal Opportunity Act. That way DHS would have to provide for everyone on the Spectrum – not just the low functioning Autistics.

It makes sense that Autism would be present in the Aboriginal community. It also makes sense that there would be a lot of misdiagnosing going on – and I smell some racism in these lazy diagnosis results. That seems to crop up a lot in remote communities like the ones in the Kimberley region. Interfering in a culture like the Aboriginal – even been seen to even if it’s not intended – would be a candidate for a sensory overload. Not to mention the issues teens have in the community with petrol and glue sniffing (especially the former) and alcohol of course. That would add to the sensory overload.

I hope the Minister for Indigenous Australians is aware of this report. If I have time I might just check with her office about it, even though Parliament has risen for 2010.

The incident with the bus driver irked me for one good reason. Why is there even a bus for such students? Heck – I don’t like buses because there are too many people around. Really – it should be private individual transport. So the school is failing the special needs students from the get go through a rather obvious cost saving measure.

Don’t get me wrong – special needs goes wider than just the Autistic Spectrum and everything does need to be catered for. What’s the bet there are wheelchair bound students at this school? I would say it’s almost a guarantee.

Putting a rag over a child’s face to stop stimming is stupid and the driver was rightly given his marching orders. The aide should have been sacked as well, not just put on probation. She clearly failed to familiarise herself with the child in question and what would bring on the stimming and spitting. That would have led to a better response than the rag! And the driver wouldn’t have needed to be involved (which was an issue in itself). Stimming is okay – unless it involves self harm. Spitting isn’t okay. But the question had to be asked; Why was the boy spitting to begin with? Deal with the cause – not the effect.

I wish people would get that.

It really annoys me when stories like the one about Camelot in New Mexico crops up. It undermines the support structures that are being established and supported by states like New Mexico (and good for them to try), purely because the wrong people are being hired. I don’t know if Camelot is a private enterprise institution or not (knowing the US it probably is), but it goes to show that the government has to treat this as an essential service and look after it directly as a part of the state’s health department. That way they can be held accountable if anything goes wrong.

Incidents like this only perpetuate the fear society in general has for the Autistic Spectrum. I hope the idiot that has been charged cops a big sentence for it. Child abuse is bad enough, but to abuse a child with a disability is even worse. These centres are supposed to understand and look after these kids for goodness sake!!

The story about the woman in England who made her Autistic son drink bleach to kill him, and her attempt on her own life was another example of the lack of supports for parents of Autistic kids. And this one coming from Pommieland!

There is no doubt that the danger signs were about. Council workers clearly failed here and they knew it hence the case review noted. The fear the woman had about having the child taken off her were real without a doubt but her reaction was pure BS. He needed to be taken off her temporarily while she was helped with coping stragedies, while her son was properly looked after by people who know how to deal with Autistic children.

Governments at all levels need to be there for parents in this position. It’s why the false information available on the Internet is such a threat. When information isn’t available from the first port of call (government and welfare services) panic stricken parents run for the Internet in the hope of finding something they can latch onto. That shouldn’t be happening.

Diminished responsibility is a cheap excuse in this case, which is why I’m linking this to the McCarron murder case. Karen didn’t claim that (as far as I know) but that’s beside the point. This level of desperation has to be nipped in the bud – and pronto. And full and proper information and supports to back it up is the only way to do that.

It has been made clear in the article in the Daily Mail that the decision that was made to award compensation for vaccine injury has nothing to do with Autism. Robert Fletcher is not Autistic. He has Mental Retardation (MR).

What concerns me in this is why did the reaction occur? It should be investigated for the sake of vaccine safety. We shouldn’t forget what happened with Hannah Poling, who reacted to nine vaccines in one appointment because she had a Mitochondrial Dysfunction issue (she was already on the Spectrum as I have previously said). What happened with Robert should be considered very important.

Of course, the curebies from the mercury militia will jump on this as will the apologists for Andrew Wakefield. They still don’t realise that vaccines are a tool and are dependent on how there are used.

That’s all I need to say.

Good! This is another result in favour of common sense. Of course Therese Cedillo wouldn’t quit, saying that “We are obviously extremely disappointed. Michelle has a very strong case. The facts in her medical records speak for themselves. Our lawyers are currently reviewing the decision to see what legal options are available.”

Here’s something in the medical records that you need to explain, Therese. Why the heck didn’t you take Michelle to the hospital when her temp hit 104F, huh? You neglectful witch! Not only that, there was plenty of evidence before the Vaccine Court originally that Michelle was already on the Spectrum before the MMR. The regression occurred not because of the jab, but because of the high temp that wasn’t treated promptly (my opinion).

I briefly skimmed the decision at the beginning at end, and noted another high temp episode – even higher than the first. 105F! And yet still no trip to the hospital? Come on!

The prosecution appeared from what I saw to be attacking the Special Master in the original Vaccine Court decision for bias. The court here denied that and gave their grounds quite reasonably from what I skimmed through.

If I recall correctly, the next step can only be the Supreme Court of the United States – and they can only decide on matters of law either in law itself or the US Constitution. I don’t see how the Cedillo’s could argue any question of law is in dispute, given that it’s the process in making the decision that they seem to have issue with. If I’m right, that’s something that the Supreme Court does not have jurisdiction to decide on. The matter is closed.

The 35 page decision is 15 pages longer than the Hazelhurst decision in May. It will be used in my own legal proceedings.

I’ve always said that deaths of Autistics generally result from neglect. The neglect can come from different areas and should be treated on a case by case basis. Mostly you never really know the circumstances and that doesn’t help.

People refer a lot to the case of Katie McCarron. Curebies try to sympathise with the mother and how Katie should have been cured. But the mother was charged with murder and convicted. IIRC she meant to kill her daughter because she was Autistic. That is never an excuse and never will be.

This latest incident perpetrated by this Texas based but apparently (judging by the name) Arabic mother has similar sinister overtones.

What irks me more than anything else is that this is a result of poor education. This is why I am determined to wipe the curebies off the Net as best I can. Their influence inhibits the education process, to the point that parents who are struggling to cope just don’t know how to respond. And that’s downright dangerous.

Then there’s the poor government responses throughout the world. I’m hearing many variables across the United States, and Canada of course has the wrong version of ABA written into standard treatment “law”. This also contributes to the lack of general all round support for those on the Autistic Spectrum.

Deaths like this will continue as long as people insist on trying to push it as a negative thing that needs to be prevented. This is needless – and it amounts to manslaughter at best. At worst it’s outright murder. It has to stop. Autism is a classic case of fearing something you don’t understand. Let’s try to understand shall we? Autistics are human beings and should be treated as human beings and not animals or lepers.
